99 DOTS SCHEME IN ENGLISH: A new program called 99-DOTs has been introduced to monitor whether TB patients and HIV infected patients who are being treated in government hospitals across Tamil Nadu are taking their medicines regularly and to keep them under continuous treatment.
After taking the daily pill, the affected person should call the toll-free number on the pill card. The call will be recorded in the automated computer at the control room in Bengaluru.
The hospital staff can monitor the patient’s intake through computer wherever they are and field staff will visit them in person and dispense the missing medication if they are found to be missing a pill.
In the first phase, the scheme was first introduced for patients treated at Tirunelveli Government Hospital.
